Fifth of July Fizzle

At 9:25 tonight there will be another fireworks display in the area; this one run by the Union County freeholders for some reason that escapes me.  Maybe someone out there can explain it:

In any case, there seemed to be little logic behind running this thing with no on-sight parking at a dangerous highway crossing with only a handful of shuttle buses to transfer maybe 300 people three miles late on a Sunday night.  Here are my highlights so far:

Laughing my ass off! Nice reporting John. I am sure the freeholders will be claiming tens of thousands of attendees but I doubt if they will make the same the mistake of claiming receipts for parking that don’t match bank deposits.

JB1-i was laughing also about this debacle. We are observing that $25 million in missing taxmoney, stolen by the freeholders for their own dumb ideas, being wasted on the stupidest things they can come up with. What else will there be? We also noticed they just donated $180,000 to united way, that’s our money also. They obviously thing we can’t handle our own charitable donations. Are they that stupid?

The parking lot I had driven thru around 7 oclock that night since I was in the area. It was the same as you had taken, maybe one more car was there. The lower parking lot was half full, but that’s all the walkers and joggers around the lake.

I drove the 4 miles over to Galloping hill then went home. There was a car stopped near the entrance and a cop talking to him giving directions probably. Can you hear the conversation: Officer, I would like to take my children into the carnival and fireworks…..I’m sorry sir you can’t park in here…..Officer, but there is a whole big empty parking lot…..Sir, heres what you do-you drive 3 miles down the boulevard and make a left. Go up half a mile and go into the college parking lot. Have you and your kids wait the twenty minutes until one of the 2 shuttle buses stop to pick you up They will bring you back here and drop you off at the same big empty parking lot……….Say officer, what about at the end of the fireworks with the huge crowds wanting to get back on one of those 2 buses, how long will that take?……Sorry Sir, we havent thought that far ahead, now get out of here.

On July 18 in Berkeley Heights The Mount Carmel Festival will have the greatest fireworks display ever. Its not paid for by UC Taxpayers its a private charity and they charge a small admission. No Ulterior Motives and No Patronage will be allowed.

Once again this year, on the July 03 evening, New Providence closed off the downtown street and had a street fair including an excellent DJ with games, clowns followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 9 pm sponsored by Investors bank. Plenty of parking in the downtown parking lots and Community Pool lot. Did I mention that the town has a Republican council.
