Raises for County Department Heads (and Freeholders)

For years Union County freeholders received annual salaries of $29,500 with the Chair of the Board getting an extra $2,000 and the Vice Chair an extra $1,000.

Ordinance 757-2014 adopted on July 17, 2014 fixed the salaries of department heads effective January 1, 2014 and was questioned at the time.

There was another set of raises effective January 1, 2015 that were reported on and questioned.

Now we have this:

769-2015 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE SALARIES OF BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS AND DEPARTMENT HEADS AS AMENDED.

First reading was last Thursday and there is an excellent chance it will be approved unanimously at the next freeholder meeting on December 17, 2015 to raise the salaries of nine department heads (excluding newly-hired Director of Corrections) and all freeholders by 2% effective January 1, 2016.

The intriguing aspect of this new ordinance is that base freeholder salaries are not going up from $29,500 to $30,090 but rather from $30,090 to $30,691.80.  Apparently as of January 1, 2015 the freeholders raised their own salaries by some method that did not include public disclosure.

At this point the best advice I can give County Watchers is to move on and live your lives. You put up a great effort but you have lost. The criminals are in charge and getting away with easier and easier each year. I have given up. I hope they steal as much as they can as quickly as they can.

java, and that’s how Hudson county become Hudson county. Even CC asked for years he can’t do it without the rest of us helping, yet the same incumbent thieves get elected every year back into the legislature….and that’s how NJ became NJ.

The watchodgs do a great job of investigative analysis and chronicling the near criminality down at the county. Without them history would be made by the FH and their ilk since the star ledger is ignoring this. Cryan is a good example since he is the consummate disease of what is wrong with our county govt. Why stop the watchdogs now?

One wonders how revolutions get their start?

If ex-freeholder Dan Sullivan got away with it at the Union County Utilities Authority, taught them well, and well … fuck it … they can give themselves a half million raise and the dumb voters in Linden, Elizabeth, Roselle, Plainfield, Union, etc. will still think they are getting a bargain. YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID and it’s prevalent in low income areas. Call me what you want, I DON’T GIVE A FLYING FICK.
