Roselle’s Folly (1) – Introduction

The 2016 Roselle budget shows total taxes of $62.5 million:

Which is convenient for those of you in Roselle curious about how much the Mind & Body Complex will cost you.  Just add up your four quarterly tax bills and prepare to make out an extra check in that full amount (plus borrowing costs) for which you will get….

In the middle of a residential neighborhood on the corner of Chandler Avenue and Harrison Avenue a “100,000 square foot facility featuring a new pool, gym, library, computer lab, and a recording studio, just to name a few.”

Here is what the area looks like now:

Here is what it is supposed to look like $59 million later:

In this series which will run over the next two weeks we examine the project in detail from the first Netta campaign donation to the dodgy numbers that sold it to the inevitable bond default.

holy cow!—my initial post on another entry said they could save maybe $15 mill out of the $60 mill total they want to bond. This concept you attached is UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGEEE in every bloated aspect. And its big bux for sure. Which bldg. is the school and which the rec center?—looks like the left is the school, it cant be the rec center. Maybe they can share the power plant for savings. Hopefully Senator lesniak can pull his corrupted system strings and get the beleaguered roselle taxpayers some relief via grant money for this. Sell off the existing school property for couple mill for offset? bond at the longest term possible….UUUUUUUGGGGEEEEE!..Holleys folley for sure, he’s an idiot, but he has the dark side backing him and this is NJ so maybe it can be pulled off of course at the expense of a lot of other people’s money that have no stake in this.
