Rahway Duings

Rahway High School kicks off its home football schedule next Saturday at 1 pm at, we presume, this stadium as it looks today:

or possibly at Rahway’s other football stadium on Central Avenue, as it looks today:

A field that escaped any structural damage from Mayor Samson Steinman’s early moning drive-by.

It may have been that, having made the office of mayor a full-time, full-paid position, Mayor Steinman (otherwise none as ‘Driver of vehicle 1’) was going in very early to work when:

The official expanation:

Although Steinman did not respond with comment, Rahway Business Administrator Cherron Rountree said. “Unfortunately, frequently we have accidents with city vehicles and this was unfortunately an accident swerving to not try to hit an animal,” adding that this was the first time the mayor was in an accident involving a city vehicle.

As for the animal in the road, the mayor did not know what it was, according to Rountree.

“I’ve had a conversation with him about it,” she said. “He didn’t know exactly what type of animal it was. It was not a deer, it was a smaller animal than that, but he didn’t know what kind it was.”

The night before the accident was the final concert of the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series, which consisted of four free outdoor concerts organized by Steinman and the Rahway City Council.

The mayor was at the concert, Rountree said.

“He was at every single Mayor’s Concert,” she added.

The accident probably occurred when the mayor was making his rounds throughout the city, she said.

“He’s often out, you know, around investigating things in the city, making sure things are in order in the city,” she said. “He’s out all the time, and oftentimes in a city vehicle, just kind of seeing what’s going on in the city.”

But another news outlet had an alternative explanation:

After what one source called a late night at Butch Kowal’s tavern and drinks at the home of another city elected official, Mayor Samson Steinman smashed his city vehicle into a parked car but police responded in the incident at 5:38 a.m. on August 26 did not conduct a sobriety test.

An anonymous tipster alleged that the Rahway Mayor was driving his city car with an expired license when he crashed into the parked vehicle, but the section of the police report appears blank where an officer would fill in his drivers license number or the date of expiration.

Not only is driving with an expired license an offense, but Steinman was once director of the Motor Vehicle Commission center in the city.

Checking out a possible route:

The charge:

He was charged with driving with an expired license, the police report said. The charge has a minimum fine of $0 but carries a maximum penalty of $500, according to the state’s website.

Though nothing about careless or reckless driving after hitting a stationary object. Or….

par for the course of Soprano county- freeholder sullivans kid who got away with whatever happened in the county park because he was politicaly connected, or freeholder scanlons kid who got away because he was poltically connected, or that county carpenter with the 3x dui, who was released from county jail because he was politically connected, or senator lesniaks nephew county manager devanney who suddenly retired right before the musicfest investigation report stating no criminal proseuction, based on political connections, or sheriff cryan who had that strange auto accident with a county car on a saturday morning and the insurance company wouldnt cover the $335,000 owed the plaintiffs so the freeholders had the county taxpayers directly pay the money…but then you have roselle mayor garett who was raked over the coals for the dui accident because he wasnt politically connected-garrett of course deserved his punishment, but the others who were alledgedly doing something criminal skated.  This is our wonderful, Soprano County.  Two sets of laws, one for the honest and regular people or those that do not bend to the senator lesniak corrupted system, the other for pigs, idiots, scoundrals, and usueless morons who are just politically connected and hide under the senator lesniak umbrella of false justice.

The administrator is another political plum who was hired due to her knowledge of where the bodies are buried not due to her smarts
