UCIA/Aries Biosolids Scheme in Linden

Here is the scheme as I see it now:

  1. Union County Improvement Authority (UCIA) sells $50 million in tax-exempt bonds;
  2. UCIA loans most of that money to Aries Linden, LLC to refurbish a building owned by the Linden Roselle Sewerage Authority;
  3. Bond default in 2022 after all the usual suspects have taken their cuts.

But maybe it is different this time so I did a little digging and this is what I came up with so far.

According to the Aries Clean Energy website here is the project snapshot:

  • State of the art fluidized bed facility located in a re-purposed building within the Linden Roselle Sewerage Authority complex
  • Process 400 tons per day of biosolids
  • Producing 23 tons of beneficial biochar daily
  • Closed-loop system requires no fossil fuels during operations
  • Construction begins Q3 2019
  • Full operations in Q4 2020

On June 18, 2019 there was a closed-door meeting on the project at the monthly meeting of the Linden Roselle Sewerage Authority for which Derek Armstead serves as Secretary (though he was not at this meeting).

And then we have this from the NJELEC website:
