Tony Teixeira, the chief of staff for Senate President Nick Scutari (D-Linden) and a major player in Union County politics, will plead guilty to charges of income tax evasion and mail fraud next month, the New Jersey Globe has learned from two individuals with knowledge of the plea.

The investigation into Teixeira came about as a result of a separate investigation into Sean Caddle, a former political operative accused of hiring hitmen to murder a political rival, but the charges brought against him are not related to that investigation.

Teixeira, who is also the chairman of the Elizabeth municipal Democratic organization, worked with Caddle on school board races in Elizabeth, and state investigators were reportedly investigating payments Caddle allegedly made to Teixeira even before news broke of the murder investigation into Caddle.

From 2013 to 2018, Teixeira served as chief of staff for State Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Elizabeth), whose former campaign manager was Caddle.

In 2018, Teixeira became chief of staff for Scutari, who was at the time the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. When Scutari was unexpectedly promoted to Senate President at the beginning of this year after former Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford)’s shock loss, Teixeira stayed with him, thus becoming one of the most powerful staffers in state government.

Wow. Wasn’t another Staff member of Ray Lesniak found guilty of tax evasion in the past. I think his name was Hiver Ambrose. Seems to be a pattern with these Dems….just saying.

  4. Nick Scutari on October 30, 2022 “whether you are an elected official or serving as a member of staff, residents deserve the highest of standard in public official beyond reproach.” Hi, Nick (in case you are one of your staff is reading this) you are correct! the taxpayers and residents of Union County DESERVE the highest standard in public office…BEYOND REPROACH. So, WTF are you letting Oatman and Taylor be appointed into the highest executive positions in the County of Union Administration Building knowing FULL well they are inappropriate, abusive and corrupt? REMOVE these rodents who hide unground when the heat is on. They are going out in handcuffs so why not end the extreme dysfunction and corruption continue today? Lack of leaderships perhaps? Just a little bit? Nah, a whole federal prison full of them. Let’s end this disgraceful, dysfunctional nonsense now and remove Oatman and Taylor. The most vile people EVER to run the County of Union. Shameful and shameless.
